Programme

Three world premieres and a host of internationally renowned flutists come together in Splendor for a unique evening of music from Gabrieli to Volans. Mary Jane Leach’s intenesly moving Dowland’s Tears, based on the 17th century composer’s Lachrymae, is tour-de-force for ten flutists. Other highlights include the premiere of 7 Flutes by South African composer Kevin Volans, who rose to international prominence through his collaboration with Kronos Quartet. BBC Magazine named him one of the 50 most important living composers. The program also includes works by Giovanni Gabrieli and the American-European composers Alvin Curran, Anne La Berge and Ned McGowan.
