Programme

There are some concerts you should just not miss and this is one of them. On March 17th 2017 make sure you are in the hall for this one-time only performance of world renowned Irish pianist Barry Douglas as he joins forces with the exceptional Ensemble Caméléon to perform Schubert’s much loved Trout Quintet. Although all of the members of Ensemble Caméléon are no stranger to Splendor, this is the very first performance by Barry Douglas in the intimate setting of Splendor Amsterdam. Barry has established a major international career since winning the Gold Medal at the 1986 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition, Moscow. As Artistic Director of Camerata Ireland and the Clandeboye Festival, he continues to celebrate his Irish heritage whilst also maintaining a busy international touring schedule. Ensemble Caméléon, the only group of its kind in The Netherlands, was set up in 2002 by a group of principal string players with the leading Dutch symphony orchestras. Their many concerts both in The Netherlands and abroad have been critically acclaimed for not only the high individual level of playing, but also the perfect ensemble playing, musical conviction and flair. What better way to celebrate the Irish St. Patrick’s national holiday than on the day itself – March 17th – in this unique Dutch-Irish collaboration of the highest calibre. Make the evening extra special, by joining the prelude talk and presentation by renowned Irish chef, author, TV presenter and co-founder of the Ballymaloe Cookery School, Rory O’Connell before this concert.

Barry Douglas – piano

Joris van Rijn (violin – leader Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra)

Joel Waterman (viola – Dutch Ballet Orchestra)

This concert forms part of the St. Patrick’s Festival of Irish culture at Splendor taking place on March 17-18th 2017. A Dutch-Irish collaboration showcasing the richness and depth of Irish music and culture and its influences. Learn more about the Festival and 2017 programme at: stpatrickamsterdam.com.
