Not often, you bump into a group where practically all members have different musical and cultural backgrounds. The Amsterdam-based Jerboah is such a group. The six musicians are rooted in rock, jazz, theater and contemporary classical music, but found each other on the stage. Three of these multi-instrumentalists play recorders (blokfluit). This, in combination with vocals, electric guitar, synthesizer and drums, results in wonderful post-pop and art-rock. The vibe is alienating, the sound is non-western and the style is hard to be pigeonholed. These are musical explorers.

EMPIRE

Liz Allbee Trumpet
Korhan Erel Live-electronics
Thorsten Töpp – Guitar

A meeting of three musicians. Not just a meeting, but a meditation. A meditation on the option of peace. In times of great political turbulence, suffering and pain, conflicts and war, dreaming may seem idealistic, even pointless. But it is only in dreaming that the seed is planted, new options and possibilities are created which then can be realised in the present . In the world we live in and shape right now.
Liz Allbee – a trumpet player of the Californian Bay Area, electronic artist Korhan Erel from Istanbul, and multi-instrumentalisr Thorsten Töpp from the Ruhr region in Germany found each other at last years Moers Festival, and decided to keep on dreaming a little longer.
Fine and dense sounds are woven together, their textures shaping and complimenting the projected images by media artist Natascha Töpp from Düsseldorf. Strange and estranging scenes of terror and violence contrasted with scenes of peace and serenity.
Let’s dive into this dream of peace. Lets keep on dreaming.
