KIAP is een trio bestaande uit twee musici uit Noorwegen en een uit Tsjechië die een fascinatie hebben voor energieke, extroverte muziek. De muziek is gebaseerd op riffs, grooves, patronen en in geïnspireerd door vele genres zoals rock, metal en de New Yorkse avant garde. De composities zijn heel open en bieden veel ruimte voor interactie in de ruimte tussen improvisatie en compositie.
Het trio nam zeer onlangs een CD op met de Duitse klarinettist Frank Gratkowski. Van die CD spelen ze vandaag materiaal in een boeiend concert voor iedereen die van jazz houdt.

Jazz from Norway, Czech Republic and Germany

KIAP is a trio consisting of one Czech and two Norwegian musicians who share a common fascination for energetic and extroverted music. The music is based on riffs, grooves, patterns and is inspired by many genres, such as rock, metal and the Avant-garde scene in Downtown, New York. The tunes are very open and draws upon the interaction in the space between improvisation and composition.

In the summer 2016 they were releasing their first CD on the Hevhetia Records. As a releasing tour, they were touring in Japan in June. They have played at numerous festivals all over the Europe and in Japan.
In December 2016, KIAP recorded a CD with German reed player Frank Gratkowski. Even though this project is still using similar expressions as it's on the previous album, it has also changed. The fourth layer of this band extended the music and give it a new dimensions.
Michal Wróblewski is a Czech composer and saxophone player who lives in Norway. He leads 5 different bands in both Czech Republic and Norway and he's been touring with a different musicians all over the world.
Magnus Grimnes is definitely one of the most significant and original Norwegian guitar players. He started in a metal band, then he studied jazz academy in Oslo and both those genres and many others have influenced him as a musician.
Magnus Eide is one of the most busy jazz drummers from the young generation in Norway. For his universality and specific sound, he has been invited to a many project and recordings by the most known musicians in Norway.

Frank Gratkowski

Alto saxophone, clarinet, bass clarinet, contrabass clarinet, compositon. Born in Hamburg, 1963. Started playing the saxophone at 16 and, following a period at the Hamburg Conservatory (Hamburger Musikhochschule), moved in 1985 to study at the Cologne Conservatory of Music with Heiner Wiberny, graduating in 1990. Further studies with Charlie Mariano, Sal Nistico and Steve Lacy. Frank Gratkowski has been working as a soloist in various international formations (Grubenklang Orchester, Klaus Koenig Orchester, Musikfabrik NRW, Tony Oxley Celebration Orchestra, Bentje Braam, BikBentBraam, All Ears, Zeitkratzer, WDR Big band, etc.). Since 1990 he has been giving solo performances throughout Europe, Canada and USA.
In 1995 he founded the “Frank Gratkowski Trio” and performed with countless musicians (Georg Graewe, Paul Lovens, John Lindberg, Dieter Manderscheid, Gerry Hemingway, Sebastiano Tramontana, Herb Robertson, Peter Kowald, Peter Brötzmann…). In 2005 he got the SWR Jazzprize. Frank Gratkowski played on nearly every German and on numerous international Jazz Festivals including Vancouver, Toronto, Chicago, New York, Seattle, Quebec, Les Mans, Muelhuus… He has been teaching saxophone and ensembles at the Cologne, Berlin and Arnhem Conservatory of Music and is giving workshops all around the world.
