Programme

The multi-talented Liam Ó Maonlaí will be joined by musicians from different genres to explore Irish music, identity and it’s influences.

Few people are aware that Irish traditional sean-nós melodies may have originated in North Africa and further east. Using this as inspiration Liam, Haytham, Maarten, Peter, and Niti will present a programme that weaves together Irish and other musical styles in this unique, wonderful collaboration in an intimate setting.

Liam (piano, vocals, bodhrán, harp, tin whistle) will be joined by Splendor’s Maarten Ornstein (bass clarinet) and Haytham Safia (ud), Peter O’Toole (guitar), Niti Ranjan Biswas (tabla) for this unique musical experience.

Liam is one of Ireland’s best-loved musicians and singers, both in rock and Irish traditional music. U2’s Bono once described Liam as “the best white boy soul singer in the world” and he has also been called one of Ireland’s best sean-nós (traditional Irish) singers.

This event is part of the annual St. Patrick’s Irish Festival 2016 at Splendor. A Dutch-Irish collaboration showcasing the depth of Irish music and culture in the heart of Amsterdam.
