Michael Moore, one of the 50 Splendor Artists, received the Dutch jazz award, the Boy Edgar Prijs in 1986. In ’97 Trio Clusone was voted #1 acoustic group in Down Beat’s Critics Poll; in 2000 – 2002 Moore was voted #1 clarinetist in the same poll. He was also voted winner of the Bird Award from the Northsea Jazz Fest in 2000. He has a deep understanding of both the American jazz and the Dutch improvised music traditions, but his writing and playing are also influenced by music from other cultures. He has played Turkish music with Ogüz Büyükberber and Hüsnü Senlendirici, Malinese with Toumani Diabate, Keletigui Diabate and Habib Koite, Portuguese with Fernando Lameirinhas and Cristina Branco, and Brazilian with Rogerio Bicudo, Banda Mantiqueira and Paulo Moura. The musics of Sicily, Madagascar, Istria and Indonesia have also been particularly influential. He has collaborated with and been influenced by poets and poetry, dancers and other visual artists.

Anne La Berge’s career as flutist/improviser/composer stretches across international and stylistic boundaries. Her performances bring together the elements on which her reputation is based: a ferocious and far-reaching virtuosity, a penchant for microtonal textures and melodies, and her unique array of percussive flute effects, all combined with interactive electronic processing and text. She performs regularly as soloist and in the duo Shackle and the ensemble MAZE and is a founding artist of Splendor Amsterdam, a collective of musicians, who have transformed an old bathhouse in Amsterdam into a cultural mecca. She is the Managing Director of the Volsap Foundation that produces innovative music projects.

Mary Oliver, violin, viola, and hardanger fiddle, is a performer whose virtuosity spans the worlds of scored and improvised music. Her doctoral thesis, “Constellations in Play,” identified a new kind of creative discipline, which Oliver has pursued with colleagues locally and around the world. Based in Amsterdam, Oliver is a member of the Instant Composers Pool (ICP) Orkest, and a regular collaborator with dancer/choreographer Michael Schumacher. She is on the faculty at the Hogeschool voor het Kunst Utrecht teaching at the school for Kunst, Media and Technologie and on the faculty of the Dutch Improv Academy.
