“I am one of those performers who is always looking for the boundaries, in order to push them ever onward and outward. I do this alone, and also with my colleagues. Splendor is made up of like minded people and so the possibilities for exploration and expression are limitless. And I’d especially like to share this exploration with the next generation in the form of workshops and performances. My splendor brainchild will be organizing a series of “Vampire Jams”, open improv sessions which happen at the witching hour…”
Claron McFadden is considered one of the most versatile performers of her generation. Since making her home in The Netherlands, she has made a name for herself on the opera stage and the concert stage, in performances at, among others, The Netherlands Opera, Glyndebourne, Aix-en-Provence, The Concertgebouw, The Concertgebouw Brugge, The Salzburger Festspiele, and The Holland Festival. She is a frequent guest of Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Intercontemporain and ASKO- Schönberg. McFadden is also invited to collaborate with jazz and improvising musicians, including Artvark Saxophone Quartet, Konrad Koselleck,Chris Hinze, Eric Thielemans and Eric Vloeimans.
In the 2012 Holland Festival she made her debut as a theater maker in her one-woman monodrama “LILITH”, a co-production with the Operadagen Rotterdam. Her speech at the 2010 TEDxAmsterdam was chosen to be put on TED.com, and in 2007 she was awarded the Amsterdam Prize for the Arts. She was nominated for a Grammy award in 2002 for her interpretation of Harrison Birtwistles’s “The woman and the Hare”.
McFadden is since 2001 professor at the Amsterdam Conservatory.
