LET OP! Dit concert is in de Uilenburger Synagoge – op Nieuwe Uilenburgerstraat 91

An emotional reenactment of the spiritual and musical experience of Good Friday in the Iberian Peninsula.

The rites of Good Friday are a mysterious though central part of Catholic spiritual life. More importantly they point to a very different experience of the Passion from the famous renditions of Protestant composers such as J.S. Bach. Surrounding the story of Christs sacrifice a series of rituals from the Adoration of the Cross to the Burial of the Lord – expressed the pain and sadness of believers in a much more extroverted way.
Alive since the 11th Century, detailed accounts of these spiritual experiences are best preserved in the Missale Bracarensis, a Portuguese edition from the 16th century.
Seconda Prat!ca has created a emotional reenactment of this spiritual and musical experience by creating a program of chant, psalms and motets from Iberian sources and composers. It also includes various pieces performed for the first time in centuries. This staged concert offers a more profound experience of the Passion colored by the emotional tones of Iberian heritage, giving the audience a spiritual experience of music.
