Programme

New York City based composer Franky Rousseau creates music that defies genre. The Franky Rousseau “Large Band” is his unique brand of contemporary large ensemble music. In his Netherlands debut, he will be featuring Ben van Gelder on alto saxophone, Arthur Hnatek on drums, and joined by 17 of Amsterdam's finest young musicians.

Franky Rousseau is a composer from Montréal, Canada. Equally well versed in different facets of music, his compositions defy convention and obfuscate genre. His “Large Band” is a 19-piece ensemble resembling a traditional big band, committed to playing his original music. He released his debut recording “Hope” in 2012, written for and performed by the pianist Austin Peralta along with his ensemble. Franky recently premiered a multidisciplinary music drama piece in New York entitled “April”, written with Dominic Mekky. He frequently collaborates with “Keio Light Music Society” in Tokyo, as well as the drummer and composer Arthur Hnatek. He currently lives in New York City.
