'Whose arm is that?' - cd release

For VONK’s debut album and the project Songs for VONK, initiator and co-creator Nicoline Soeter invited composers to write a new program with her. Songs with audible influences of modern-day music and avant-garde; driven by the curiosity for an unexpected language mix.

In this concert, VONK performs music from the album 'Whose arm is that?', a completely new program that was released on CD, with compositions by Nicoline Soeter, Brechtje and Molly Joyce. 'Whose arm is that?' is an album full of transformations. The makers’ individual signatures, with varying perspectives on the theme ‘Evolution’ give the music an exciting diversity. The project was made possible with the support of het Fonds Podiumkunsten and Kunstloc Brabant.

In VONK, four musicians and a composer work together on new productions. The ensemble has a striking individual sound as a result of an original combination of soprano, saxophones, clarinets and percussion. Open minded and groundbreaking, the ensemble has continued to build a new repertoire since its creation in 2015. In 2016 VONK presented its first music theater production, ‘Wunderkammer’, written by Nicoline Soeter, which premiered during November Music.

VONK commissions works from other composers and organizes innovative collaborations with writers, theater makers, and choreographers. The ensemble appeared at Incubate, November Music editions 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018, Muziektheaterdagen Amsterdam, Cross-Linx, Gaudeamus Muziekweek, Transit Festival (BE) and Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (GB), among others.
