RCO Cello Society deel VII: Honorine Schaeffer & Clément Lefebvre

Wonderful cello/piano duo from 'la douce France'

Since early 2019 we have presented a series in Splendor: The RCO CELLO SOCIETY. All 13 cellists from the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra present themselves individually, or with musical friends, in a new, different light than their usual activities as orchestra musicians. They exhibit their versatility and creativity in 13 different programs, which can be heard exclusively in Splendor.

This unique series is made possible through collaboration with Splendor and with the generous help of the Christiaan Vlek Fonds, which supports the cello group in organizing special projects.

This 7th edition showcases, for the first time, our French colleague from the cello section, Honorine Schaeffer, presents a classical cello recital with the French pianist Clement Lefebvre in which there is plenty of room for Ludwig von Beethoven, whose 250th birth year we celebrate in 2020.

Biography Honorine Schaeffer
Honorine was born in Avignon, France in 1991, and has played in the KCO since 2014. She feels right at home in the Netherlands and is never homesick. She finds everything she loves here, and doesn’t even miss the French cuisine because she is a vegetarian and often cooks at home.
She enjoys playing in her string quartet, the GoYa Quartet Amsterdam (established in 2015 with 3 orchestra colleagues) and, of course, in the orchestra where she values her friendships and the familial atmosphere among her colleagues. In addition to her passion for music, Honorine also enjoys yoga, breathing exercises and learning new languages because she is fascinated by how people think in different cultures. Music remains her favourite language, because it’s universal. She is convinced that beauty and art is the best way to save humanity and what connects all of us. She met pianist Clément Lefebvre while studying at the Paris Conservatoire (C.N.S.M.) in the years 2007-2014, and they have often performed together. A special musical and personal link binds both musicians, who love to perform together whenever possible. Honorine greatly admires Clément’s playing and is delighted to be able to perform with him in Amsterdam, so that the Dutch public can also enjoy his beautiful musicianship, his subtle and refined touché.

Biography Clément Lefebvre
Clément Lefebvre demonstrated great interest in music from a very young age. He started playing the piano at age 4, before discovering percussion. After studying both instruments at the conservatory in Lille, he decided to concentrate fully on the piano. He went to the conservatory of Boulogne-Billancourt, and then studied with Roger Muraro en Pierre-Laurent Aimard at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. Clément Lefebvre won the first prize as well as the audience prize at the James Mottram International Piano Competition in Manchester in 2016. He is also laureate of the Banque Populaire Fondation, the Safran Fondation, the Meyer Fondation and the Mécénat Musical Société Générale. He has been invited to perform at many prestigious concert halls and festivals. He performs as soloist with orchestras, including the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra with Vasily Petrenko conducting, and the Orchestre de la Garde Républicaine. He also plays on the radio for France Musique and Radio Classique.
