CLEMENS ZEBULON - “Pop into Being” album release

Singer-songwriter project of bass player Clemens van der Feen

Release concert of Pop Into Being, the singer-songwriter debut of CLEMENS ZEBULON: performed live for the first time!

Pop Into Being is the surprising singer-songwriter project of bass player Clemens (Zebulon) van der Feen. Clemens played double bass with the top of the classical world such as the Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Orchestra of the 18th Century, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble and LUDWIG Orchestra, but is best known for his work as a jazz bassist. He has worked with jazz greats such as Toots Thielemans, Brad Mehldau and currently plays in bands including pianist Fred Hersch (US), Joris Roelofs, Reinier Baas, Harmen Fraanje, singer Tutu Puoane (SA), Robin Verheyen (BE) and Paul Lay (FR).

Clemens released two albums with his own music: High Places (2011) and 14PM (2013). Both albums were received enthusiastically by the press: Jazzism Magazine counted both albums among the "highlights of Dutch jazz of recent years" and wrote about 14PM: "Breathtakingly good tracks…Brilliant interplay!"

Clemens has always been composing, but recently the urge to sing came over him as well. As a child, Clemens sang with his brothers in the Feenbrothers – making his debut at the North Sea Jazz Festival at the age of twelve – but after his voice broke he focused solely on the double bass. When he became a father, he started singing again and writing songs, which he recorded in his studio in the last few years. As the name suggests, the songs of Pop into Being are influenced by all kinds of artists from pop history such as The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder and Radiohead. All instruments on the album were played by Clemens himself (except for the flute). South African singer Tutu Puoane is also a guest on a track.

This release concert will be an 'unplugged' version of the album.
