Maripepa Contreras

Oboist and composer Maripepa Contreras is one of Splendor's Jonge Honden (Young Bloods) for the period 2020-2022.

At school we learn: ‘The oboe is a wind instrument with a double reed, characterized by its warm but penetrating sound’. Well, wait until you hear the conjuring improvisations of Maripepa Contreras! She is definitely ‘something else’ in the best possible way: Spanish roots, classically trained, with a jazz education and with a passion for Brazilian music. Nowadays she is teaching oboe jazz at Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
