Programma

“..This album was born from a simple idea – to play the music I love to listen to, on the instruments I love to play. The main inspiration has been the process of arranging Steve Reichs minimalist masterpiece Vermont Counterpoint for the recorder, a project that has spanned a good few years and that I am proud to present here.

The recorder lends itself especially well to minimal music. Its basic tone is pure and synth-like, able to create a hypnotizing blend with electronics. It is an object powered by breath, making each note seem to awaken and exist, alive. It has evolved over centuries, resulting in an entire universe of drastically different sound colours.

I have embraced the term minimal music not only as the specific genre that began to emerge in the mid-20th century, but in its wider definition of music employing limited or minimal amounts of material. Throughout the album we explore this concept through harmony, pulse and rhythm, sound colour and texture, and in our approach to the arrangements. We can see minimalism apparent in medieval canons, in Renaissance ornamentation, in fantastically diverse contemporary works, and in (not so) traditional folk music.

The title Constellations refers to these discrete clusters of sound worlds each light years apart yet sharing similarities across the distance. Gradually shape-shifting in our perception, the more we pay attention. Tangible pinpoints of light that beckon the eyes, and ears, to follow.

In this CD presentation concert I am joined by:
Kim-José Bode, recorders and vocals
Dodó Kis, recorders and vocals
Müfik Can Müftüolu, electronics

Join us in the bar afterwards for a drink and a celebration!”
