In een wereld die steeds meer op een game-omgeving lijkt, onderzoekt MAZE Festival interactieve partituren als manier om de relatie tussen muzikanten, componisten en publiek in twijfel te trekken en opnieuw vorm te geven door middel van gamestrategieën en interactieve elektronica.
Dit is de derde editie van het jaarlijkse festival van MAZE Ensemble: zes in Amsterdam wonende en werkende vooraanstaande musici uit de wereld van de hedendaagse gecomponeerde muziek, jazz, impro en experimentele elektronische muziek. Met wereldpremières en ander werk van innovatieve internationale geluidskunstenaars zoals Marko Ciciliani, Alessandro Bosetti, Alexander Schubert en Claudio Baroni.

Vrijdag 18 mei 18.00 - 19.00

De eerste dag van MAZE Festival bestaat uit twee concerten in Splendor. Om 18:00 uur is de officiële presentatie van Karada, een compositie / interactieve installatie van componist Claudio Baroni en kunstenaar Adi Hollander. In Karada doet geluid kunstobjecten vibreren. Het publiek kan simpelweg luisteren óf op de objecten liggen en de muziek voelen. Het werk is gebaseerd op een boek van de Japanse schrijver Michitaro Tada en is ook gedurende de rest van het festivalweekend nog te bezoeken.

20.30 - 22.00

Na een pauze speelt MAZE Ensemble drie wereldpremières in het tweede concert. Waaronder Renard van de innovatieve geluidskunstenaar Alessandro Bosetti - een audiovisueel werk gebaseerd op een waarzegsessie - en drie delen uit Yannis Kyriakides Trackers; een serie van interactieve partituren gebaseerd op een tekst van Sophocles over de oorsprong van muziek en de vraag wie mee mag doen.

INTERACTIVE SCORES: GAME STRATEGIES IN MUSIC: 3 DAYS OF CONCERTS AND TALKS

In a world that becomes more and more like a game environment, MAZE Festival explores interactive scores as a way of questioning and redesigning the relationship between musicians, composers and audience, using game strategies and interactive electronics. This is the third edition of the yearly festival initiated by MAZE Ensemble: six renowned Amsterdam-based musicians from contemporary music scenes including jazz, improv and experimental electronics. Featuring world premieres and other works by innovative international sound artists including Marko Ciciliani, Alessandro Bosetti, Alexander Schubert and Claudio Baroni.

Friday 18 May: 18.00 - 19.00

The first day of MAZE Festival presents two concerts in Splendor. At 18:00 is the official presentation of Karada, a composition / interactive installation by composer Claudio Baroni and artist Adi Hollander. In Karada, sound makes art-objects vibrate. The audience can just listen or lie on the objects and feel the music. The work is based on a book by Japanese scholar Michitaro Tada and will be on display for the remainder of the festival weekend.

20.30 - 22.00

After a dinner break, MAZE Ensemble plays three world premières in the second concert. Including Renard by innovative sound artist Alessandro Bosetti - an audiovisual work based on a divination session - and the performance of three parts of Yannis Kyriakides Trackers cycle; a series of interactive scores based on a text of Sophocles that deals with the origins of music and who is allowed to participate.
