Workshop Contemporary Music for All
Workshop contemporary music for amateurs, led by Lucas Vis
Are you an amateur musician and would you like to play contemporary music? Then register for the Contemporary Music for All workshop on Saturday, March 23 in the Splendor music building in Amsterdam. This workshop is organized by the ensembles CoMA Maastricht and CoMA Eindhoven in collaboration with Splendor.
Both ensembles are affiliated with the British organization Contemporary Music for All. CoMA was founded in London in 1993 by amateur musicians who noticed that modern classical music was often technically too difficult for amateurs. They asked composers to write pieces that are playable for them and suitable for flexible ensembles. There are now 20 CoMA ensembles active in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands and their library contains more than 600 compositions.
CoMA Maastricht was founded in 2011 and CoMA Eindhoven in 2018. Both ensembles consist of approximately 20 musicians. They experience again and again how exciting and challenging it is to play contemporary music. The CoMA compositions vary in style and they appeal to different playing methods. Also, both ensembles often play pieces by befriended Dutch composers.
The workshop is led by Lucas Vis, conductor of CoMA Eindhoven. Vis is a specialist in contemporary music and has conducted premieres of, among others, Andriessen, Stockhausen and Berio with ASKO|Schönberg, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble and other orchestras at home and abroad.
