The End of Times

'Be - Longing' is a series of concerts and events in Splendor, with the powerful reflection on migration and identity - ‘Where are we going and where do we belong?’
We present to you Messiaen's 'Quatuor pour la fin du temps' today on the day when we are thankful and rejoice the past 80 Years of living in freedom in The Netherlands which we are assuming to be granted.
The four musicians, whose home countries Serbia and Ukraine are currently struggling either in the heights of war, or are in political turmoil, hope for change to come and wish to share with you today an hour of reflection and deep thought with The Quartet for End of Time.
Olivier Messiaen wrote this magnificent piece in 1941 in the concentration camp as a political prisoner. Those dark times evoked this 8-movement piece - Quartet for the End of Times, inspired by the text from the Book of the Apocalypse. This monolithic statement is here for us to admire and remind us what we as humanity are capable of.
Let us not forget that freedom is not granted and that it is a responsibility to fight for it in times of peace as much as in times of war.
