New Music at Splendor
Night of the Composer
Amsterdam-based collectives — including Splendor, Grond, Bajesdorp, Plantage Dok / Milk Factory and Toets des Tijds — join forces for a collective program spread across all Splendor venues.
20:00 – Splendor
With: Luke Deane, Julija Hartig, & Akim Moiseenkov
At the heart of this program is Black Rainbow — a haunting composition for violin, voice, and live electronics. It’s a musical lament filled with longing for connection, where acoustic and electronic worlds blend seamlessly.
Also on the program are miniatures by Akim Moiseenkov and world premieres of violin and piano duets by Luke Deane and Julija Hartig — specially composed for this evening.
Performers:
Julija Hartig – violin, voice, Akim Moiseenkov – electronics, voice, Luke Deane – piano, voice
21:00 – Plantage Dok - Conversation and film: The Paper Ensemble
#16, the sixteenth work by The Paper Ensemble, is the first short music film by artist/composer Jochem van Tol, created in collaboration with filmmaker Jiska Rickels and performer Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti. Since 2007, van Tol has been developing sculptural paper instruments with his ensemble, revealing the rich sonic possibilities of the seemingly simple material: paper. Set in an old, empty paper factory, the film follows a woman playing with enchanting paper sculptures. Inspired by Japanese garden design, #16 invites the audience to open up to a world made entirely of paper sounds — rustling bushes, ocean waves, and singing whales.
Jochem van Tol (Amsterdam, NL, 1983) is a sound artist, composer/producer, and musician.
21:30 – Toets des Tijds (Main Hall): Secret Compartment
Secret Compartment is an intimate and playful performance featuring newly composed music for toy pianos and cello, combined with the movements of an acrobat. The concert includes interactive elements and draws inspiration from the aesthetics of Zen art and the astronomical objects catalogued by Charles Messier.
Performers:
Nick Vos – acrobat
Anne Veinberg – toy pianos
Wilma Pistorius – cello
Music by: John Cage and Wilma Pistorius
21:30 – Toets des Tijds (Small Hall): Anne Veinberg solo
A solo performance by pianist Anne Veinberg in the intimate small hall.
22:30 GROND: Temperatura
TEMPERATURA is a new concert series focused on contemporary music from the Netherlands and beyond, aiming at bringing together all its current expressions.
The audience can experience performances by solo artists, ensembles, and free improvisation acts, with sounds ranging from acoustic instruments to modular synthesizers, and from DIY musical instruments to sophisticated new technologies.
Promoting the spectrum of contemporary musical stimuli, TEMPERATURA aims to bridge the gap between musicians, composers, and performers from diverse musical backgrounds. Through these temporary crossings, we seek to create an environment—a playful space for experimentation and open ears—that fosters listening, performing, and creating together, and potentially spark new collaborations.
Tonight, the initiators of TEMPERATURA, Fani Konstantinidou (live electronics) and Jasna Veličković (Velicon, coils and electronic things), will perform with Paolo Gorini (piano) and Claudio Jacomucci (accordion). Four composers-performers come together on stage for the first time to listen, perform, and create together.
FILM PROGRAM: Composer Film Program - (Continuous)
A selection of materials from the New Music NOW archive will be shown at Splendor.
A continuous stream of unique concert recordings and productions will be screened throughout the evening.
