Ledenconcert Bart de Vrees

Sonic Adventures on Sunday Afternoon

An afternoon filled with new electronic and acoustic experiments using tapes, guitars, cassettes, synths, magnets and cello.

For this concert, Bart de Vrees invites fellow musician friends who all work at the intersection of acoustic and electronic music and sound art. What connects them is an unrelenting drive to experiment, curiosity, and a shared search for new, unheard sounds.

This Sunday afternoon, Sjors van der Mark and Jostijn Ligtvoet (aka Clôture Électronique) will present their brand-new collaboration. During his solo performance, Ivo Bol (aka Vinkepeezer) transforms chaotic patterns using a broken Walkman, while Bart de Vrees and Ivo Bol work with vintage tape recorders, four-track cassette decks and magnets.

Sjors van der Mark began his career as a classical guitarist, but through his focus on contemporary music he has fully embraced the electric guitar. In addition to working with groups such as Orkest de Ereprijs and Herz Ensemble, Sjors plays rock and metal adaptations of contemporary classics with his band Redakteure. As a solo artist, he mainly focuses on his own compositions, freely incorporating improvisation and electronics in the form of effects pedals.

Clôture Électronique is the musical identity of Jostijn Ligtvoet, a musician who explores the boundaries and points of contact between acoustic and electronic sound. Using cello and modular synthesizer, he creates a unique sonic world in which improvisation plays a central role. Repetition, noise and long sustained tones form hypnotic structures that slowly unfold.

Ivo Bol creates his own sound world using found sounds: the hum of a refrigerator, a forgotten cassette tape, the crackle of a vinyl record before the music begins. During performances he manipulates these sounds using plants, radios and brainwaves. Under the name Vinkepeezer, Bol composes music for dance and theatre productions, filmmakers and visual artists in the Netherlands and abroad.

Bart de Vrees is a composer, percussionist, performer and experimental video maker. In his work he explores the integration—or deliberate disintegration—of music, sound, text, image, movement, theatre, visual art and new media.

Member concert
Splendor can only be the independent and free hub that it is, thanks to the members who support us. We pay them back with our specialty: music. Every year, all Splendor musicians play one concert that's free for this crucial group to whom Splendor owes its everyday existence. Combined with many other events, this means that our members have free entrance to over 50 concerts a year for €9,99 p/m (and €4,99 p/m for minima and students!) – and receive a discount for all other concerts. Pretty good deal, right?

The members enable Splendor to remain independent, which is the only way to secure real freedom in programming, experimentation, risk-taking and the promotion of young, upcoming artists. If you can think of another place without a central programming, where last-minute concerts can be planned any moment, where there is no backstage and artists and audience are constantly mingling and hanging out at the bar, where mysterious creative outbursts can be presented that are often labeled 'too risky' elsewhere, and that still guarantees high quality by unleashing the best of The Netherlands' music scene in this creative playground – you get a free membership!
