Ledenconcert Julija Hartig

Julija Hartig, Floor le Coultre & Francien Schatborn: Two violins & a viola

Violinists Julija Hartig and Floor le Coultre, together with violist Francien Schatborn bring an evening of Bohemian and Hungarian masterpieces. From Dvořák’s lush Terzetto to Kodály’s fiery Serenade, it promises to be a night of pure, shimmering Romanticism.

Julija:
'I am thrilled to invite you to a performance that explores the rare, vibrant textures of the upper strings. Joining me are two incredible musicians and dear friends, Floor le Coultre and Francien Schatborn, for a program that breathes life into the flamboyant and romantic traditions of Central Europe.

We have selected two masterpieces specifically written to showcase this unique instrumentation:
Antonín Dvořák – Terzetto A lush, Bohemian journey filled with the warmth and nostalgia of the Czech countryside.
Zoltán Kodály – Serenade A fiery, folk-infused trio brimming with Hungarian spirit, rhythmic drive, and soulful dialogue.
While most string trios feature a cello, our ensemble—two violins and a viola—offers a distinct sonic experience. Without the heavy bass of the cello, the music gains an incredible transparency. It is vocal, "shimmering," and mimics the authentic sound of traditional village bands, where the strings dance with an airy, conversational intimacy.

The string trio is a cornerstone of the chamber repertoire, typically defined by the grounding presence of the cello. However, our program explores a much rarer configuration: two violins and a viola. Without the traditional bass foundation, the acoustic landscape shifts entirely. The sound becomes remarkably transparent, almost vocal in its delivery. This instrumentation harks back to the authentic village bands of Central Europe, where the strings engage in an intimate, airy dialogue that feels both ancient and immediate.'

Member concert
Splendor can only be the independent and free hub that it is, thanks to the members who support us. We pay them back with our specialty: music. Every year, all Splendor musicians play one concert that's free for this crucial group to whom Splendor owes its everyday existence. Combined with many other events, this means that our members have free entrance to over 50 concerts a year for €9,99 p/m (and €4,99 p/m for minima and students!) – and receive a discount for all other concerts. Pretty good deal, right?

The members enable Splendor to remain independent, which is the only way to secure real freedom in programming, experimentation, risk-taking and the promotion of young, upcoming artists. If you can think of another place without a central programming, where last-minute concerts can be planned any moment, where there is no backstage and artists and audience are constantly mingling and hanging out at the bar, where mysterious creative outbursts can be presented that are often labeled 'too risky' elsewhere, and that still guarantees high quality by unleashing the best of The Netherlands' music scene in this creative playground – you get a free membership!
