Schumanns Dichterliebe en Liederkreis

Florian Götz (bariton) with the Grundmann-Quartett

Accompanied by the Grundmann Quartet, baritone Florian Götz sings Schumann's "Liederkreis" Op. 39, and "Dichterliebe".
Oboist Eduard Wesly arranged the piano part of these famous song cycles for cor anglais and string trio.
As an intermezzo between the beautiful poems of Joseph von Eichendorff in the "Liederkreis" and the passionate outpourings of Heinrich Heine in the "Dichterliebe," the Grundmann Quartet plays Schumann's "Sieben Stücken in Fughettenform" from 1853, born from Schumann's love for the music of J. S. Bach.

A previous collaboration between Florian Götz and the Grundmann Quartet resulted in a recording of Schubert's "Winterreise." The French magazine Diapason praised it as "One of the most impressive transcriptions – and lectures – entendues à ce jour" (One of the most impressive recordings – and lectures – entendues à ce jour), and the major Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun selected it as the best imported CD of the month.

For this concert, the ensemble is charging ticket prices based on ability: "Pay what you can."
