Ledenconcert Emine Bostancı

Bach’s music offers a contemplative and open musical space in which different musical worlds can meet.

With Thuis bij Bach (At Home with Bach), saxophonist, composer and arranger Raaf Hekkema creates a space for artistic encounter and exchange. For this edition, he invited kemenche player, composer and vocalist Emine Bostancı, who draws on her background in the Ottoman-Turkish makam tradition to enter into a musical dialogue with Bach’s music.

Alongside Bach, the programme also features music by his Ottoman contemporary Dimitrie Cantemir. This Moldavian prince, scholar and composer played an important role in documenting and preserving the Ottoman musical tradition.

Emine Bostancı brings this project to Splendor, where Bach, Cantemir and the kemenche come together in a search for new sounds, textures and musical connections. Drawing on historical sources, they create a living, contemporary sound world in which improvisation, interpretation and experimentation take centre stage.
