James & Graham Campbell (CA) + Oene van Geel & Emile Visser

James Campbell and Graham Campbell are a clarinet and guitar duo from Canada. Although father-and-son, in their musical relationship they are more like brothers. Their choice of music consists of jazz, Brazilian choro, and original music and arrangements, all performed with the sensibility of chamber musicians.

For this performance they will be joined by their friends Oene Van Geel (viola, cajon), and Emile Visser (cello). Dubbed "Canada's pre-eminent clarinetist and wind soloist” by the Toronto Star, James Campbell has performed as soloist and chamber musician in over 35 countries with over 60 orchestras including the Boston Pops, Montreal Symphony and the London Symphony.

He has collaborated with Glenn Gould and Aaron Copland and toured with over 35 string quartets, including the Guarneri, Amadeus and Vermeer. Of his over 40 recordings, the BBC and The Times of London rated his recording of the Brahms Clarinet Quintet as the best available and his CD “Stolen Gems” (Marquis Records) won a Juno. James Campbell has been Artistic Director of the Festival of the Sound since 1985 and has been Professor of Music at the famed Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University since 1988.

Described as a "gifted guitarist and composer" (The Whole Note), Graham Campbell is a versatile musician based in Toronto, Canada. His experience in jazz, pop, folk, world, and chamber music has taken him to many major festivals across North America and Europe including the Festival of the Sound and The Ottawa Chamber Music Festival, appearing with notable musicians such as jazz pianist Gene DiNovi, genre-bending violinist Mark Fewer, jazz vocalist/pianist Laila Biali, The Afiara String Quartet, and pillar of Canada's Brazilian music scene Aline Morales. He performs regularly with psychedelic Brazilian rock band Os Tropies, reggae band The Human Rights, Brazilian singer-songwriter Bruno Capinan, and multi-instrumentalist Emilyn Stam.

Oene van Geel and Emile Visser are known musicians in the Dutch Music scene. They played together for more then 25 years in the Zapp4 String Quartet and happily performed with James and Graham at several tours in Canada.
