The Unique Sound World of Instrument Maker/Artist Rob van den Broek

For many years, composer/violist Oene van Geel has collaborated with the highly inventive artist/instrument maker Rob van den Broek. They collaborate on a variety of projects, and that's a good reason to dedicate a wonderful Splendor concert evening to them.

The same evening, two other fantastic musicians will perform: harpist Beate Loonstra and cellist Joshua Herwig. They, too, are musicians who enjoy challenges and experiments. On September 24th, they will have access to a complete set of new instruments and installations. Some were made especially for them, some were a big surprise. Maker Rob van den Broek presents these instruments and installations in a unique setting at Splendor, like a menu where the musicians themselves choose what and how they want to use them.

Composer and violist Oene van Geel has been collaborating for many years with the inventive artist and instrument maker Rob van den Broek. This special evening at Splendor is dedicated to their creative partnership: a night full of musical exploration, sound experiments, and newly built instruments.
Joining Oene are harpist Beate Loonstra and cellist Joshua Herwig — both adventurous musicians with a love for the unknown. For this concert, they will play on a full set of brand-new instruments and sound installations by Rob, some made especially for them, others left as a surprise.
Rob presents his creations in a unique setting: like a musical ‘menu’ from which the musicians choose what and how they will play. Expect an evening where music, art, and sound installations merge into something truly unexpected.

This concert will be filmed by filmmaker Mario van Zijst, who is currently working on a documentary about Rob and his instrumentarium.
