RCO Cello Sociëty deel VI: Fred Edelen & Christina Scott Edelen

A programme packed with French Baroque by Boismoitier, Corrette and Barriere

Since early 2019 we have presented a series in Splendor: The RCO CELLO SOCIETY. All 13 cellists from the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra present themselves individually, or with musical friends, in a new, different light than their usual activities as orchestra musicians. They exhibit their versatility and creativity in 13 different programs, which can be heard exclusively in Splendor.

This unique series is made possible through collaboration with Splendor and with the generous help of the Christiaan Vlek Fonds, which supports the cello group in organizing special projects.

In the 6th concert in this series we get to know Fred Edelen (baroque cello) and his wife, harpsichordist Christina Edelen, both from the United States. They met each other at the Den Haag Conservatory, while both studying there in the Old Music department.

After fulfilling positions in the Houston and San Antonio (Texas) orchestras, Fred settled in The Netherlands in 2003, where he became assistant principal cellist in the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. In addition to his orchestra responsibilities, he is also very active in chamber music with the Egmont Quartet, and is a member of the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra.

Fred and Christina have never lost their love for the Baroque. How wonderful to have the Duo Edelen share their passion for this beautiful repertoire many years later in the RCO Cello Society. The programme includes music from their recent CD “Les Delices de la Solitude”, by Boismoitier, Corrette, Barriere and others.

Fred Edelen - baroque cello
