MOORD en Assail

Two audiovisual performances for fluitist, electronic music and projections

MOORD (murder) is a one act audio visual live performance for one flutist, electronics and overhead projector.

Concept/music/live electronics: Cinzia Nistico
Visuals/overhead projector: Esther Urlus
Flute: Klaasje Nieuwhof

Why does the crime-genre fascinate so many artists and their audiences?

MOORD describes the act of killing without showing the murder. It catches an extreme moment during its unfolding, like a series of snapshots. Murder is a conclusive event —at least for the victim—it is the end-of-the-line of their life. MOORD stretches this termination, brings its inner workings to the forefront, exposes its vectorial form. The piece constantly progresses towards its end, until it extinguishes its own energy.

There’s no turning back from murder, no repair, no compensation. Through the layering of projections on the flutist, the visual effects and the ways in which sounds are processed, this piece addresses how dramatic events might erase their protagonists, disintegrate their identity, reducing the performer to an almost bi-dimensional figure, present and absent at the same time.

This project has been made thanks to Balkonscènes

Assail is a story told six different times from six different emotional perspectives with musical interludes as part of the storytelling. The story is the assault of a 21 year old woman told from the perspective of Confusion, Disgust, Fear, Rage, Shame and Sorrow.
