RECORDARI & Show Pony

Verena Barie and Show Pony (Laura Nygren) are set to collaborate for an evening of sonic explorations. Combining their unique styles and talents, they promise to take the audience on a mesmerizing journey through sonic landscapes and musical dimensions. Whether through intricate melodies, experimental compositions, or innovative improvisations, their performance take the audience on a unique trip. Verena Barié is a globally active recorder player, electronic composer and media artist. Her projects strive to combine different art forms and audiences from around the globe.

With her program RECORDARI Barié explores contemporary music for recorders and electronics, diving into the space for improvisation designed by graphic scores. The pieces of the program have not been heard performed with recorder before and Barié broadens the scope of the instrument with live electronics as well as her sound installation „senza manuale“. At the core of the program is the performance of SPIRAL by Karlheinz Stockhausen as well as an arrangement of John Cages FOURsix including field recordings and organ pipes. The recorder led Barié to the intersection of music, new media and performance art early on. She is based in Cologne and works as a curator at LTK4 – Klangbasierte Künste Köln and LTS4 x Licht.Ton.Sicht. As chairwoman of the Cologne Society of New Music (Kölner Gesellschaft für Neue Musik e.V.) Barié helps shape the cultural life of Cologne’s independent music scene through musical and artistic events as well as cultural-political engagement. Beatradar Show Pony is the alter ego of American double bassist Laura Nygren. Show Pony came into existence after years of singing quietly at home with her instrument, writing songs about heartbreak, atoms, and the absurd. Her debut EP written in collaboration with No Compliments was released in May 2021 during Rewire. Laura Nygren is an American double bassist, singer, electronic musician, and producer, based out of the Netherlands. She enjoys the music of the moment, the performers of the present, and the tunes of today. A lover of chamber music and orchestral playing, Laura has appeared with Sinfonia Rotterdam and Berlin based ensemble s t a r g a z e. She is a founder the new music trio T R O M P O, indie-folk duo Woo Girls, and has her experimental pop act Show Pony. An active collaborator, Laura has worked with artists from all genres of music. She has toured with singer Soap & Skin as well as participated in writing sessions with Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz) and Simon Tong (The Verve).
