Beethoven's Immortal Beloved - Try Out
Musical theatre about the love story behind Ludwig van Beethoven's letter to an anonymous lover
Who was the woman of whom Beethoven said on his deathbed: 'For me there was only one...?' With this performance, the Dutch String Collective presents a previously virtually unknown, dramatic love story about the composer Ludwig van Beethoven.
Take away love, and Ludwig van Beethoven is an impossible, misunderstood, irascible, ill-mannered, self-centered jerk. But he is also that pianist who makes you forget everything around you, draws all the attention to himself, so that nothing else is important anymore. He is the creator of that incredibly beautiful, powerful, moving, ingenious and shocking new music. While he is deaf!
Marieke de Bruijn conducted research into the “Immortal Beloved”, the anonymous woman in Beethoven's life. Through her story we get to know Beethoven as a child, as an adult, as a musician and composer. Based on this love story we also hear his unparalleled music. You can't get any closer to Beethoven.
Played by master pianist Jonathan Waleson and the Dutch String Collective. Marieke de Bruijn previously created the performance “Schubert”.
