RENCONTRES, Xenakis on wire!

A tribute to composer Iannis Xenakis with music for percussion, harpsichord and live electronics

Hardly a more challenging and exciting combination of instruments can be imagined than the one of harpsichord and percussion, where the percussive properties of the harpsichord are emphasized, while its outspoken lyrical and musical possibilities are highlighted and given to the percussion. Koleva and Isphording not only want to trigger the attention anew, but also take another approach to the works of Iannis Xenakis. His compositions trigger associations with pop en techno music. They invited Ruben Kieftenbelt to join them as third performer by adding live electronics and creating a different perspective and sound experience.

The title not only refers to the French origin of these compositions, but above all to the meeting of different cultures, nationalities and generations of performers, composers, and their pieces. Arnold Marinissen comments on this program musically with a new composition. Tatiana and Goska complete the program with two creations of their own. De Volkskrant rated this concert with four stars review and noted: “Xenakis did not write the easiest music, but what an otherworldly listening experience this performance delivers.”

This project is made possible with the generous support of The Performing Arts Fund, Het Cultuurfonds and Amsterdam Fund for the Arts.

Tatiana Koleva - percussion
Gośka Isphording - clavecimbel
Ruben Kieftenbelt - sound design & live electronics
