Vox Humana Moderna

Martin Fondse & VOKALORCHESTER NRW

Martin Fondse's new cycle Vox Humana Moderna is inspired by Francis Poulenc's mono-opera La voix humaine (based on Jean Cocteau, 1930), in which the telephone symbolizes a disrupted human connection.

Fondse translates this theme to our time, in which the telephone has long been replaced by messengers, social networks, voice assistants, and artificial intelligence. Vox Humana Moderna explores how digital communication changes our experience of closeness and distance. Can AI replace real human relationships? What does empathy mean in an increasingly automated world?

The Vokalorchester NRW makes these questions audible with its experimental vocal sound language. Fondse wrote a multi-part cycle for voices and piano/synthesizer, with electronic elements, improvisation, and influences from new music and jazz.

Known for his openness, humor, and connecting power, Martin Fondse is not only a composer and pianist, but also an inspiring mentor and orchestra leader. His work brings people together and always seeks the unexpected—exciting, extraordinary, and full of the energy of the moment.
