Duduk Workshop

An Introduction to the fundamentals of playing the ancient Armenian woodwind instrument


Welcome to the Duduk workshop by Hovhannes Karakhanyan from Armenia. In this six hours workshop, participants will be introduced to the history of the Armenian Duduk. This workshop will focus on repertoire, technique, tuning, secrets of playing, reeds and tricks. No auditions or prerequisites is required. This workshop is for duduk lovers, regardless of the level. If you don’t have an instrument, the teacher will bring some to borrow (and disinfectant) The duduk is an ancient Armenian double reed woodwind instrument made of apricot wood. There is evidence of the duduk's use as early as 1200 BC. It is considered a symbol of Armenian national identity for his ability to express the mood and history of this people, both for the natives and for the diaspora around the world. UNESCO proclaimed the Armenian duduk and its music as a Masterpiece of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2008. Thanks to his unique sound, deep and melancholic, is having a process of integration with international culture.
