Deep Listening - concert

Amidst the many Splendor concerts – in which the ears are being richly stimulated – today we get a chance to experience at a deeper level how we listen, how we can discover more in what we hear, and how we are in fact part of what we hear. Composer/vocalist Kristin Norderval (NYC / Oslo) leads us through this deeper connection to listening with the Deep Listening™ method as developed by renowned composer-performer Pauline Oliveros (1932-2016).

Deep Listening explores the difference between the involuntary nature of hearing and the voluntary, selective nature of listening. The practice includes bodywork, sonic meditations, and interactive performance to cultivate a heightened awareness of our sonic environment, both external and internal. It is playful, collaborative and improvisatory. As a certified Deep Listening practitioner of twenty-one years, Kristin continues Pauline's practice of attentive sonic awareness.

In the afternoon, from 14h-17h, there is a Deep Listening workshop. This workshop is open to anyone wishing to explore listening and sounding inspired by the sounds of daily life, nature, one’s own thoughts, imagination, and dreams. No previous musical training is necessary.

Concert in the evening:
Unfortunately, due to Covid, composer/flutist and Splendor musician Anne La Berge, and composer/sonologist Johan van Kreij cannot join for the concert.
Kristin Norderval will perform a solo set for voice and electronics. As previously planned, it will also include work prepared with workshop participants earlier in the day.
