Stop de Tijd (Sneak Preview)

Margriet Sjoerdsma & Martin Fondse / Stop the time (Sneak Preview)

Sneak Preview! Stop The Time will be touring extensively from December 2022

Seize the opportunity for a Sneak Preview of Stop The Time: the newest project of Splendor musician and multi instrumentalist Martin Fondse and fellow multi-instrumentalist Margriet Sjoerdsma. They bring the beautiful poems of Vrouwkje Tuinman to life, enriched with lively animations by visual artist Udo Prinsen.
Stop The Time is an epic collage-performance about the desire to take the world and time into our own hands. Expect colourful folk, captivating melodies, gripping poetry and slightly absurdistic sounds, in which the elastic voice of Sjoerdsma goes hand in hand with the rich harmonies and humour of Fondse. Literally and figuratively timeless.

Should we desire to win the race against time?
Stop The Time is a performance filled with songs that move from small and intimate to large, orchestral and epic. With its combination of the everyday, the unreal and the absurd, Stop The Time takes us on a caleidoscopic journey of melodies, rhythms and sounds. The songs are written from emotions as far apart as desperation, surrender and euphoria, while the lyrics of poets such as Vrouwkje Tuinman, Remco Campert and Jean Pierre Rawie form a bridge between the personal and the universal. Every now and then the musicians stop the time. Every end holds a new beginning.

Margriet Sjoerdsma and Martin Fondse are both multi instrumentalists. Margriet conquered The Netherlands in 2013 with A Tribute to Eva Cassidy. She performed over eighty times with this highly praised album, from North Sea Jazz to a fully packed Concertgebouw. In 2021, won the Edison Award for her album Odelion Orchestra – Northern Lights, on top of the earlier prestigious Nederlandse Oeuvreprijs Kleinkunst en Cabaret: de Bronzen Leeuw.
The highly creative Martin Fondse composes for a large variety of ensembles such as the Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Metropole Orchestra and Asko|Schönberg. He is internationally acclaimed with his own orchestras and collaborations such as with the Brazilian pop star Lenine. He is also a sought-after solo artist on piano and vibrandoneon. Martin has a very own humoristic style, for which he was awarded the prestigious Boy Edgar Prize in 2017. Since November 2021 he is Composer of the Netherlands.

Splendor can only be the independent and free hub that it is, thanks to the members who support us. We pay them back with our specialty: music. Every year, all Splendor musicians play one concert that's free for this crucial group to whom Splendor owes its everyday existence. Combined with many other events, this means that our members have free entrance to about 80 concerts a year for €9,99 p/m (and €4,99 p/m for minima and students!) – and receive a discount for all other concerts. Pretty good deal, right?

The members enable Splendor to remain independent from government subsidies, which is the only way to secure real freedom in programming, experimentation, risk-taking and the promotion of young, upcoming artists. If you can think of another place without a central programming, where last-minute concerts can be planned any moment, where there is no backstage and artists and audience are constantly mingling and hanging out at the bar, where mysterious creative outbursts can be presented that are often labeled 'too risky' elsewhere, and that still guarantees high quality by unleashing the best of The Netherlands' music scene in this creative playground – you get a free membership!
