Sinta Wullur, Martijn Baaijens & Sandip Bhattacharya: Indian music meets piano
Composer and pianist Sinta Wullur, raised in Indonesia and The Netherlands, is a musician and artist with many creative tentacles. From classical piano to a deep fascination for Indonesian and Indian music; from composition to improvisation; from teacher to speaker... It's no surprise that she became the "Toondichteres des Vaderlands" in 2002. For the concert series Raga Impressions, she invites Indian musicians to forge classical music from India and the West into a new genre. The musicians improvise based on Indian ragas, while Sinta adds Indonesian influences by mixing gamelan rhythms with classical piano techniques. Throughout the programme we will hear references to classical music, minimal music and film music.
Tonight, Sinta invites sarod player Marijn Baaijens and santoor/tabla player Sandip Bhattacharya for this newest edition of Raga Impressions. Together they create new music with ingredients from the Indian, Indonesian and western music traditions.
