Encuentro 5

An afternoon of music, storytelling and performance

Encuentros are performance evenings where several makers showcase new works for each other and a small audience, to enable exchange and discussion during the creative process. Each Encuentro hosts two or three short sets by makers from various disciplines - music, dance, theatre, poetry, storytelling, visual arts…

These evenings are funded by Balkonscènes, Fonds Podium Kunsten.

This fifth edition introduces two works:
Vibration, a work in progress with video, movement, and performance by Maya Felixbrodt and Yesterday I saw her face a story set to music by RAH & Anniek Odom.

Travelling Viola is a series of site-specific video and live performance works. The series investigates patterns that are common to nature, to our physical bodies and to psychological and emotional processes. Each piece examines another phenomenon through sound, movement and image. For Encuentro I will present the work-in-progress of part 3 in this series - "Vibration", filmed at the Dead-Sea. I would like to thank my dear friend and collaborator Shai Cabili for beautifully filming it.

Rah is an interdisciplinary project in which stories are supported by electro-acoustic music and percussion. The project is performed by Sohrab Motabar (computer synthesis), Siamak Anvari (sound processing) and Rubén Castillo del Pozo (percussion and objects).

Encuentro 5 also features Annick Odom (double bass/clarinet and storyteller), and Leonie Roessler (sound processing and synthesis). The set contains stories from the Appalachians, a mountain range in the United States. Texts from the past have also been selected, such as the Margaret V. Watson Diary Collection (circa 1877) and a selection from West Virginia War Letters (1944).
