Music from Syria with western influences: Jawdat Shaabo & Ammar Melhem
Baglama player Jawdat Shaabo and oud player Ammar Melhem form together the band DuoDuo. They met in 2017 in Zwolle, having both fled from Syria before. At first Jawdat asked Ammar to be his teacher, but soon they realized that they were at a similar level. Since then they are performing their own music style. Both musicians stayed in Turkey before they came to the Netherlands. This has influenced their musical performance in a similar way, and this is why their styles fit very well together and it has led to their very specific style.
In their music you can hear Arabic and Turkish music, jazz, pop, blues and flamenco. Jawdat and Ammar both want to perform the music from their personal background in a new surrounding. They want to transform their musical style by also playing western style music. Jawdat has been supported for his education and access to conservatory education by Stichting Vluchtelingen Toverfluit. His talent was spotted at the time by Nederlands Blazers Ensemble.
