Celloduo McKenna / Van Iersel

In this varied program Nuala McKenna and Johan Van Iersel present works for cello solo and cello duo. Johan is principal cellist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Nuala principal cellist of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. They are not only a love couple, but also partners in crime on stage. Johan plays Bach's first suite for solo cello, while Nuala contrasts with Henri Dutilleux's complex piece Trois Strophes sur le nom de Sacher. Nuala plays Bach's second cello suite, after which they meet again in the Sonata in G No.4 by Jean-Baptiste Barrière for two cellos and a selection of light and melancholic duets by Reinhold Glière.

Splendor can only be the independent and free hub that it is, thanks to the members who support us. We pay them back with our specialty: music. Every year, all Splendor musicians play one concert that's free for this crucial group to whom Splendor owes its everyday existence. The members enable Splendor to remain independent, which is the only way to secure real freedom in programming, experimentation, risk-taking and the promotion of young, upcoming artists.
