A Stairway to Heaven

Try out: Dutch String Collective brings a musical journey in "A Stairway to Heaven"

The Dutch String Collective will soon start their theatertour: A Stairway to Heaven. In this theatershow the audience will be taken on a fascinating journey through three centuries of music. From Amadeus to Zeppelin, an A to Z with classics from hundreds of years ago to classics of today. Stairway to Heaven, one of the greatest rock songs of the 20th century, is the starting point of this theater concert.

The Dutch String Collective explores a rich selection of musical masterpieces including music by Purcell, Vivaldi, Mozart and Brahms and shows that classical compositions can be just as 'catchy' as pop music. And that timeless compositions by Led Zeppelin, The Beatles and Rogier van Otterloo can just as easily claim the term classical music.

Marieke de Bruijn, founder and leader of the ensemble: "Isn't music a Stairway to Heaven anyway? We would like to bring you a little closer to this place, where you can enjoy yourself, where you can disappear. With text, we highlight backgrounds and make connections between the songs and the composers. Why the music has been written. Who was once famous, who was reviled and forgotten... That often the most beloved artists went with a "quick way to heaven" ."

Marieke de Bruijn - violin and text
Jacob Plooij - violin
Mark Mulder - viola
Jos Teeken - cello
Marijn van Prooijen - double bass

Member concert
Splendor can only be the independent and free hub that it is, thanks to the members who support us. We pay them back with our specialty: music. Every year, all Splendor musicians play one concert that's free for this crucial group to whom Splendor owes its everyday existence. Combined with many other events, this means that our members have free entrance to about 80 concerts a year for €9,99 p/m (and €4,99 p/m for minima and students!) – and receive a discount for all other concerts. Pretty good deal, right?

The members enable Splendor to remain independent, which is the only way to secure real freedom in programming, experimentation, risk-taking and the promotion of young, upcoming artists. If you can think of another place without a central programming, where last-minute concerts can be planned any moment, where there is no backstage and artists and audience are constantly mingling and hanging out at the bar, where mysterious creative outbursts can be presented that are often labeled 'too risky' elsewhere, and that still guarantees high quality by unleashing the best of The Netherlands' music scene in this creative playground – you get a free membership!
