Pej Paripám

Pej Paripám! A word that is poetry and at the same time an iconic Hungarian rhythm. The beginning of a Hungarian peasant's folk song that Béla Bartók recorded with his phonograph on the Transylvanian plateau.

Bartók recorded thousands of folk melodies and dances in transcriptions, the starting point for major compositions such as Concerto for Orchestra and Duke Bluebeard's Castle, and inspiration for a whole generation of composers.

We delved into Bartók's sound archive and put together a program of Hungarian music based on folk melodies and rhythms, summarized in three quarters of an hour. You will hear both original folk songs and cultivated compositions, played and sung by Hungarian musicians - except Michiel Weidner, who is Splendorian...

Splendor can only be the independent and free hub that it is, thanks to the members who support us. We pay them back with our specialty: music. Every year, all Splendor musicians play one concert that's free for this crucial group to whom Splendor owes its everyday existence.
