presents MEMBER CONCERT:
Julija Hartig & Reineke Broekhans
'D a r k V e l v e t' and more!
... ‘For me, at least, the main highlights belong to Aleksandra Vrebalov’s evocative, soundscape-like Constellation Hartig for violin and prepared piano, and Florian Magnus Maier’s The Music of Erich Zann for solo violin – the latter a visceral 10-minute tour de force that impressively harnesses both compositional and violinistic layers of virtuosity.’ (Gramophone Magazine, October 2022)
Tonight, you will hear some of the pieces from the new album 'D a r k V e l v e t' for violin and piano in combination with the wonderful meditative 'Fratres' of Arvo Pärt and a diabolic virtuosic 'Music of Erich Zann' of Florian Magnus Maier and one of our favorite sonatas of Leoš Janáček. Violin - Piano Duo Julija Hartig and Reineke Broekhans, have more than 25 years of enjoying painting music together. They started as an ensemble suggested by their chamber music teacher Jan Gruithuyzen at the Rotterdams Conservatorium who recognised their compatibility and interest in the same way of expressing music and the sound they wish to bring to the listener. In 2004 they won the 3rd prize at the Concorso Internazionale di Musica da Camera ‘Gaetano Zinetti in Verona. In July 2022 a cd ‘D a r k V e l v e t’ came out on the label Challange Records with pieces written and arranged specially for this project for solo violin but also for violin and piano.

As we are preparing for our coming tour to Finland, we would love to share with you in addition to the repertoire from the latest album also the beautiful 'Fratres' of Arvo Pärt and our signature piece - the Sonata of Leoš Janáček.
Member concert
Splendor can only be the independent and free hub that it is, thanks to the members who support us. We pay them back with our specialty: music. Every year, all Splendor musicians play one concert that's free for this crucial group to whom Splendor owes its everyday existence. Combined with many other events, this means that our members have free entrance to about 80 concerts a year for €9,99 p/m (and €4,99 p/m for minima and students!) – and receive a discount for all other concerts. Pretty good deal, right?
The members enable Splendor to remain independent, which is the only way to secure real freedom in programming, experimentation, risk-taking and the promotion of young, upcoming artists. If you can think of another place without a central programming, where last-minute concerts can be planned any moment, where there is no backstage and artists and audience are constantly mingling and hanging out at the bar, where mysterious creative outbursts can be presented that are often labeled 'too risky' elsewhere, and that still guarantees high quality by unleashing the best of The Netherlands' music scene in this creative playground – you get a free membership!
